Happy Winter Solstice and Yule
for tomorrow, 21 December 2013
The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and happens exactly this year at 17.11 GMT (or UT). After that, every day will receive more sunlight and therefore get longer. Yay! I’m a sun bunny, so gimme gimme warm weather over winter any day!! 🙂

Yule is the Pagan winter festival, which over time has been incorporated into the Gregorian calendar as ‘Christmas’ on 25 December. However, most of the Wicca or Pagan folk I know prefer to celebrate Yule on the Winter Solstice and see it as a separate celebration to the Gregorian/Christianity based ‘Christmas’.
I am not pagan myself, but having studied and experimented with the pagan faith some year’s ago, the tenet of that faith that remains with me to this day is to honour the passing of time and the natural cycles of the earth. Just as I honour what happens in the stars and skies above us. To me, the Winter Solstice is a time of rebirth ~ so I will create some quiet time this Solstice to reflect on everything that happened in 2013 and consider what I would like to give birth to in 2014. It is also a time to give thanks and honour our Ancestors and family.
The Sun moves into Capricorn on 21 December and hours later, Venus goes retrograde. In plain English, this energy means we are being called to review what we value and love right through to the end of January. If you know anything about astrology, then see what House Capricorn rules in your Natal Chart and this will show you the area of your life that is up for review. If you’re not sure, drop me a line with your date, time and place of birth and I’ll let you know.
I can feel this energy already as Capricorn rules my 10th house of Occupation & Calling ~ Where am I going?? I can see how I’ve taken on too many obligations and commitments recently and throughout January I’ll be reviewing how to balance my job, with family and charitable commitments. I love and very much value all of these things, so its going to be a challenge.
Venus is also all about relationships, so in general, its a good time to review all of our relationships to see whether they are adding value to our lives or draining us. Relationships from the past can pop up again – either in the mind and heart or in reality ~ whether friends or lovers. And usually for a specific reason, so be aware! There is also an energy over Christmas that will remove any rose tinted glasses and throw a splash of reality onto us all ~ not a bad thing.
If we stand gently in our own truth and integrity this holiday season, then we can’t really go wrong
Wishing you and your family a VERY MERRY 🙂
Lots of love and hugs
